PlanetSide 2 PS4 closed beta coming mid-January, SOE president says

Fans of PlanetSide 2, Sony Online Entertainment’s (SOE) popular free-to-play online first-person shooter for the PC, will be happy to hear that the PlayStation 4 version of the game will be receiving a closed beta sometime in the middle of January.

The development was revealed by John Smedley, Sony Online Entertainment’s president, in a recent tweet made in response to a PlanetSide 2 fan’s inquiry regarding the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

The following comes from SOE president John Smedley’s official Twitter account:

As seen his tweet above, Smedley reveals that the SOE team worked hard to bring PlanetSide 2‘s closed beta to the PS4 before the start of 2015 (as was originally revealed). However, it seems that they were not able to do so due to undisclosed circumstances.

That said, it appears that the closed beta for the PlayStation 4 version of PlanetSide 2 is not too far away, with Smedley stating that the beta will most likely go live sometime in the middle of January, either the week of January 13th or the 20th to be precise.

For PS4 gamers unfamiliar with PlanetSide 2, you can read a brief summary of the game’s premise (from SOE’s official website) below:

PlanetSide 2 is a revolutionary massive scale first-person shooter where soldiers battle as one in strategic, targeted missions against enemy empires in an all-out planetary war. The game challenges the skill and grit of the most seasoned soldier through intense infantry, air, and ground vehicle gameplay.

What are your thoughts of Smedley’s confirmation of PS2‘s closed beta on the PlayStation 4? Are you disappointed it’s not coming in the next couple of days? Or are you content with the fact that it is indeed coming, regardless of the original release window?
