[dropcap size=dropcap]T[/dropcap]he next gen successor of Xbox 360, Xbox One was intensively advertised as a revolution within the industry of gaming devices. An entertainment multimedia center that was intended to become the core of any respected home, a device suitable not only for gaming but for movies, internet and other entertaining activities. Combined with the great flexibility of the console’s control systems, Xbox One is nonetheless a console worthy of 2013.
The same identity but not the same games
Do not expect that Xbox One will be compatible with its predecessor. No, such compatibility would definitely produce a rift in the space time continuum, by destroying the commercial factor. Because the economy is based on those who buy the same things not just once, but every time they need to use them, users who have already bough their games, will have to get rid of their collections and buy new titles if they want to play with Xbox One. The good news is that the personal achievements, gamertags, gamerscores and avatars can be transferred to the new account until the user buys the Xbox One version of his favorite game. So, in other words, players will be able to maintain their identity but no their favorite games.
What happens when you try to play an Xbox 360 game on the new Xbox One?
Recently, we managed to finally get our hands on an Xbox One console and because we wanted to see for ourselves how the backwards compatibility works (or not), we tried a no-so-old Xbox 360 video game on the new platform. Of course, we selected a video game that we had previously been playing on the old Xbox 360 device and knew it worked. Well, after we have inserted the disk, the Xbox One console informed us that it is in fact unable to play it, suggesting inserting another. It reads “Sorry, we cannot play this disc. Try an Xbox One game, a music CD or a movie on Blu-ray or DVD”.
