T3, a UK-based technology magazine, announced the winners from its T3 Gadget Awards this year, as Sony’s PlayStation 4 took home ‘Gadget of the Year’ and the ‘Gaming Award.’
Sony launched its current-generation console last year in November (which has already shipped more than 10 million units worldwide), and the company fought off strong competition from Apple, Google, HTC and Microsoft in both categories. Additionally, T3 inducted the first technological product into the ‘T3 Hall of Fame,’ with it being none other than Sony’s PlayStation 1.
HTC emerged victorious for the second year running in the ‘Smartphone of the Year’ category with HTC One (M8), beating the Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2 and the iPhone 5c. Apple also had some success with the Apple Mac Pro scooping the ‘Design Innovation Award’ ahead of Sony’s upcoming VR headset, Project Morpheus, and the MacBook Pro with Retina display winning ‘Laptop or Tablet of the Year.’
During the event’s ceremony at the Covent Garden in London, James Dyson, a well-known British entrepreneur and inventor, was presented with the ‘Tech Legend’ award.
“What an honour,” Dyson said, before adding, “My focus is on making new technology and exciting machines.
“But the best ideas are not all mine, it is Dyson’s 2,000 sparky engineers and scientists who should take the credit. Working with them and some of the best universities in the world, we are developing new technologies which make things work better.”
