PlayStation 4 – EA Reduces Price for Game Downloads

by GH Staff

Electronic Arts has now knocked off a generous amount off on its products. The amount on its PlayStation 4 digital titles has been reduced by approximately $5 (£3). Though this move has made the titles cheaper, they are apparently more costly than those belonging to Xbox One games.

The Sony PlayStation 4 may have won some credit with its more affordable than Xbox 1 price point. However, users look like they will have to give some of that money back if they are planning on downloading any digital games especially from the PSN. Before the big European launch on Friday, the download sizes and prices for launch games had been released in the United Kingdom. The price given was an astonishingly expensive £63.

With this in mind, Need For Speed, Battlefield 4, NBA 2K14, madden 25 and FIFA 14: rivals are £8 more than digital downloads from Xbox One. At the same time, they are about £16 more than the cost of normal discs, which are going for about £47 on Amazon. Besides that, £55 is the cost of Call of Duty: Ghosts and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag from Ubisoft goes for £58. Keep in mind that both can be found at significantly cheaper rates in disc form from a host of third-party retailers.

These are the prices that were available on PlayStation’s Store during the writing of this piece. However, with the PlayStation 4 still four days from being released officially in the United Kingdom, there is a possibility of having more reasonable prices being listed on Friday.

Over the last several months if anything, gamers had hoped that digital downloads would tend to be more affordable as a result of the overheads that were dramatically reduced. There is no need to provide retailers with a cut, no cost associated with transporting to retail stores and making the physical discs, yet people were still getting higher prices. What was the idea behind these high prices?

Apart from having an idea of their fate in respect to cost, would it be possible for PlayStation 4 owners to have an idea of how much space would be taken by the top games on the 500GB hard-drive that comes with the PlayStation 4. Some of the best games need to use a lot of hard-drive space. For example, Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Killzone Shadowfall require 31.8GB, 36.4GB, and 38.2 GB respectively. These are considered to be quite big and one may have to use less than 20 games on their console. Smaller games are NBA 2K14, Madden 25,  and FIFA 14 which need 9.3GB, 13.1GB and 9.9GB respectively.
