With the release of information that Xbox One is the only latest console that has support for voice commands, Sony was not to be left outdone. It has published a video that has details on how voice commands can work on the PS4. Players have two ways to use voice commands on PS4; either by speaking using the mono headset that is bundled with each system or by directly speaking to the PS Camera.
Saying the phrase ‘PlayStation’ results with activation of a menu containing voice control options. On this menu, players have various options. For instance, saying the name of any game such as ‘Battlefield 4’ and then the word ‘Start’ will launch the title. To switch users, players have to say ‘Log in’. Saying the words ‘Home screen’ will take a player back to the main menu. The video has other commands that players can use to make their gaming experience unique.
Users are allowed to take screenshots at any point in PS4 gameplay. For a screen shot to be taken, the user has to say ‘Take screenshot’. The screenshot can be shared by users with their friends. For logging out and system power off, the users has to say ‘Power’. The video has plenty of other commands that users can use.
All the same, Sony has warned that in some cases, the voice command may not be able to recognize a user’s voice especially when the ambient noise is too much in the background. Furthermore, a user will need to use it within 10 seconds. If a command is not issued within this period, the option for voice recognition will go away.
English was the language that Sony used to demonstrate how to use PS4 voice commands. However, they said there are other supported languages such as Japanese, German, French, Italian and Spanish. These are not the only languages that will be used in voice commands. Sony plans to add more languages for its users in the future and they will be released together with updates for the system software.
