I’m sure quite a few are aware that the PlayStation Now is currently live on PS4. PlayStation calls it an open beta, though players are able to purchase and rent games using this service, in addition to using its other features. While personally, I’m not entirely certain it should be called a beta, the service itself is an interesting new feature on the PS4.
PlayStation Now Open Beta – What to Expect
As mentioned before here at GH, quite a few PlayStation fans expressed a want for more apps and features on the PS4, using Twitter and other sites to claim that the Xbox one was winning when it comes to apps. Well, finally, here is a new feature. But is it what everyone is looking for as the PS4 continues to grow and expand?
PlayStation Now is a service that has already been integrated into the PS4. It is not an app, but a portion of the PlayStation Network store. When visiting this new section of the store, you will find over 120 different titles to rent or purchase. The service allows you to stream games with a variety of options. If you choose to rent, there are different amounts of time for which you can rent the game, obviously with the shorter periods of time costing less. This allows more flexibility and gives the player the ability to tailor their rental to their needs. As it’s said in the official PlayStation Now FAQ “Open Beta will test multiple pricing tiers and rental durations. You will see shorter rental periods prices as low as $2.99 and most titles are between that and $19.99.” In addition to this, you can save your games to a cloud, which will pick up where you left off should you need a break. Also, because PlayStation Now is a part of the PSN store, your trophies and friends list will sync, and you can purchase and rent via the PS Wallet.
Will this service be something players embrace? Already, there is a lot of hesitance among fans with the pricing of things. Hopefully PlayStation will use this beta period to listen to feedback and make this feature into something that will really help its fans.
