by GH Staff

[dropcap size=dropcap]B[/dropcap]LOD or Blue Light of Death seems to be the next-gen equivalent to BSOD aka the Blue Screen of Death, a well known issue among Windows users from all over the world.

Lately, several users of Playstation 4 reported some technical problems that seem to have been appearing since the launch of the next gen console, a few days ago. This PS4 error is related to the blue line that stays on, even it is supposed to blink a few seconds and shut off. Unfortunately, when the blue line stays on, the TV screen shows nothing and the first diagnosis is that your console became useless.

These problems were signaled by users who started the consoles for the first time, users that were able to use their PS4 devices for a certain amount of time and even users who applied the latest 1.50 firmware update. This situation is unpleasant, but it’s good to know that we have some solutions and therefore, many of the problems encountered can be solved without sending the console back to the store for repairs that can last even several weeks.

PlayStation 4 Blinking Blue Light

Symptoms:

  • The blue led is always on
  • There is no audio/video signal
  • The console shuts down

Causes:

  • Incompatibility with the TV Set
  • Malfunctioning/ faulty PS4 Power Source
  • Broken/ faulty PS 4 Hard Disc Drive (HDD)
  • Another faulty PS4 component

Solutions:

Incompatibility with the TV Set: Some of the PS4 users have managed to solve this issue by applying a firmware update to their television sets. Consequently, your first step in solving it would be to verify whether or not is a TV problem and search for a firmware update from the TV manufacturer.

Faulty PS4 power supply: Unplug the console from the power source, wait 7 seconds and reconnect it. You may try to disconnect/reconnect all the cables that connects the console to the power supply, TV, and so on.

Faulty PS4 HDD:

  • Shut down the console
  • Unplug the console from the power source
  • Unplug any other cable connected to the console
  • Open the lid that protects the hard drive
  • Verify that the HDD is properly connected
  • Reassemble the console and connect the cables, verify if the problem has been solved.

Software issues:

In case the HDD and the power supply are functioning properly and the PS4 console still has problems, try restarting the device in safe mode:

  1. Shut down the console
  2. Press the power button continuously until you hear two beeps. You are now entering the Safe Mode, which lets you diagnose the console and solve other issues.
