Since November, Canadian gamers have found themselves struggling to find a PlayStation 4 at retail. The console has been labeled ‘sold-out’ in most of the country for the better part of five months now, and many have patiently bided their time until the next batch is released. However, this next batch is going to cost more. A whole $50 more.
According to Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, the console, originally released at a $399.99 price point, will now be sold for $449.99 at retail, effective March 15th. Not only is the console itself seeing a hike in prices, but so too are a handful of its peripherals. Both the PlayStation Camera and DualShock 4 controller have been bumped from $59.99 to $64.99. The reason for all of this? According to Sony, the price changes are being made to the PS4 to “respond to changes in the market environment”.
While it is unclear what exactly they mean by this, it is clear that many fans will likely now pass on the console, or potentially move over to the Xbox One. Many fans have anxiously been waiting to get their hands on the console that has eluded them for months, and many more were waiting for the inevitable price drop before making the purchase. Now, its hard to see how fans might react to the news, and if this will damage the PS4’s superior sales figures in Canada thus far.
Do you live in Canada? How do you feel about the price increase? Will you still buy the PS4? If so, will you happily pay the extra $50 or will you do so begrudgingly but desperate to get your hands on one? Let us know in the comments below.
