EA posted a message on their website over the weekend stating that Punkbuster, the anti-cheating program for Battlefield 3, was wrongfully targeting and expelling players from online multiplayer.
EA states “We are investigating an issue of PunkBuster bans that were incorrectly applied to some of our players,” EA said on the Battlefield 3 help page. “Please understand that our game advisors are not able to access or overturn PunkBuster bans, but we’re working with our partners at Even Balance to get this resolved as quickly as possible.”
EA has also recommended that players appeal to Punkbuster directly in order to resolve the issue. EA has said nothing about the direct cause of the current issues with Punkbuster. EA has faced issues with Punkbuster in the past. Most notably an instance in which hackers, angry at Punkbuster, manipulated the program in order to ban players who were on the up and up.
For Battlefield 4, as well as Titanfall, EA has chosen FairFight as an accompanying anti-cheating program.
