A Quick Look at Some of the Gmail’s Features You Probably Weren’t Aware Of

by GH Staff

Nowadays, Gmail service has become one of the most popular (if not THE most popular) email services around. Naturally, more and more people are abandoning their older accounts (or just adding a new one to their repertoire). Now, as the title suggests, this article will be focusing on Gmail exclusively. So if you do not already own a Google account, you should definitely create one. It is very easy to do and does not require much of your precious time. If you own an account already, congratulations and welcome to the club!

So, you might think that this mail service’s excellent qualities, such as its speed or the ability to use various other Google services without leaving your email window is enough to make you want to stick around with it? The answer is, of course, yes. However, there are a number of “hidden” features that make this service even more amazing. Don’t you want to know what those features are? Here is a quick look into some of them.

The ability to mass unsubscribe

If you have been using your account for quite a while now, then you are probably receiving a number of these useless and irritating mails like “Sales”, “Last Minute deals” and other mails I do not wish to talk about here. All of these serve as debris you have to navigate through in order to reach the really important letters. Well, luckily for you, Google has thought of it and offers you an easy way out, without having to create a new account to escape all this horrible spam. Here is how you do this step: select one of those undesired mails and click “unsubscribe”. Then, you should see a list of all those unwanted mails compiled together. Now, you have to click on “select all” button and delete them. If you wish to retain some of them (for God knows what reason) you uncheck it and delete the others.

You can search for spies and key loggers

If you have this creeping suspicion that someone else might be using your account, you can check for it by going to your inbox and selecting the option called “Last account activity”. Just click it and you will see all the latest IP addresses that have been viewing your mail. Of course, you have to know your own IP. After that, just type the suspicious IP into your Google search bar and it will reveal the evil doer.

A whole bunch of useful shortcuts and hotkeys

If you are the sort of person who prefers to control your PC using mostly your keyboard, this is THE advice for you. To give you a short rundown, “j” key opens your older mails while “k” takes you to newer ones. “e” key will redirect you to the archive and Shift+# takes you to the trash folder. The “/” button opens up a search box and “a” and “r” keys are used to reply to all mails or individual ones, respectively.
