The aforementioned Min-Liang Tan, Chief Executive Officer and “Chief Gamer” of prominent gaming manufacturer, Razer, was nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge many months ago, however he stated that he did not comply because he believed that many participating in the sensation were doing it simply out of fun – that is to say, many may have not really cared about ALS.

In the previously mentioned video, the Razer CEO says that he didn’t fully comprehend the life-changing impact amyotrophic lateral sclerosis has on individuals, and that lack of understanding played a factor in his opting out of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

However, it appears that everything changed once Tan received a personal letter from an ALS-stricken individual and one of China’s biggest Razer fans, Feiran Song, who runs the Baidu Razer forum (which comprises of over 30,000 fellow Razer fans.

Song has been a Razer fan for nearly a decade, since 2005 to be exact. He has been running the Baidu razer forum on a voluntary basis for over 7 years. Upon receiving Song’s letter and learning of his condition, Min-Liang Tan discovered Song’s desire to visit Razer headquarters. Tan proceeded to invite Song to one of Razer’s design centers, where he met with Feiran and was reportedly enlightened in regards to ALS.

After Tan and Song’s meeting, the Razer CEO has stated that he wants to continue support for the ALS awareness cause. As such, Razer will be donating $10,000 dollars to the ALS Association, in order to provide care services for those afflicted with the condition in addition to global ALS treatment research.

In closing, Tan had the following to say on the matter.

“As for the Ice Bucket Challenge, while the buzz may be over, the attention that should be given to help the ALS association shouldn’t. I’m still doing it (and probably be the last person doing it) but I do hope our gamers out there will give back to the community one way or another.”
