Razer today announced its latest MFi controller called the Razer Kishi. Seen in a couple of weeks over the last several weeks, this gadget promises to turn any contemporary iPhone into a Nintendo Switch rival. Its retractable mechanism allows for maximum portability while the controller is not in use, according to the manufacturer.
The overall design of the Razer Kishi has been something this gaming accessory company has been perfecting for nearly half a decade by now. Almost as long as the MFi program has been a thing. Anyway, the Razer Kishi comes with two analogue-input thumbsticks, an eight-way D-pad, and a lightning pass-through charging port.
It’s compatible with iPhones and iPads as old as the iPhone 6 Plus and features tha already mentioned Made for iPhone certification from Apple. Unfortunately, a built-in battery isn’t on offer here, which is something we’d expect from a $99.99 accessory. But – that’s Razer for you. At least this thing promises console-quality buttons, including decent shoulder triggers and a visual four-LED battery charge indicator on the right.
By most accounts, this thing will probably feel better than the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons do. Of course, that alone won’t turn the iPhone into a better Switch overnight, as Nintendo’s ecosystem is still vastly superior to the App Store in terms of their selection of (hard)core games.
