[dropcap size=dropcap]T[/dropcap]here’s no wonder how happy Reggie Fils-Aimes, the owner of Nintendo of America was, when Wii U was released a year before Playstation 4 and Xbox One, but with comparable hardware technology. However, Nintendo Wii U’s big competitors are finally in stores and there seems to be no hope for the American provider to attract attention of the public anymore. Or, is it?
In an interview given to Forbes.com, Reggie Fils-Aime states that the hidden key of Nintendo’s success resides not in hardware components, but in the software part. Unlike competitors Sony and Microsoft, who already got big video game titles ready to run on their platforms, Wii U came out with Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda: A link between worlds. In other words, it’s up for Mario and Link to get the attention of consumers.
When asked what Wii’s franchise’ chances are to compete against Sony Playstation 4 and Xbox One’s gaming offers, Reggie Fils-Aime stated: “We rate our chances very good. Software drives hardware in the business. We see it time and time again.”
When asked about the mistaken perception of the wide consumer range on the fact that Wii U is a brand new console type, Fils-Aime declared that the issue has been already addressed at a large scale, and buyers have been informed about the high capabilities of the device they’re going to buy, going from great software to HD capabilities.
Will software advancement and franchise expansion be enough to drive people towards the Wii U during 2013’s winter holiday’s? Although Reggie Fils-Aime is definitely convinced about a positive outcome, only time will be able to tell.
