Report: New Prince Of Persia In Development With Rayman Legends Engine

by GH Staff

A report posted by the French website Le Portail du Jeu Video suggests that a new 2D Prince of Persia game is currently in development, using Rayman Legends’ UbiArt Framework engine. The writer on the site reports that the game will use “the same techniques of animation [as used] in the last Rayman” and that the Prince himself will be “divided into several parts (torso, pelvis, leg, shin, foot, forearm, hands, etc..) that can be animated independently of each other. “, just like the character Rayman.

The report continues: “This provides a real diversity / credibility in the postures and movements of the hero. The quality of the work is to believe [it is] 3D modelling [with] transitions [that are] are fluid and feel well made.” When asked by VideoGamer, Ubisoft responded that the company “does not comment on rumours or speculation”. Indeed, Ubisoft has not announced any new projects since the development of their latest game Child of Light, which uses the UbiArt Framework engine.

The last official Prince of Persia game released was The Forgotten Sands from 2010, a game released alongside the live action movie but wasn’t based on the same story. Before that was the game simply titled ‘Prince of Persia’ in 2008, a game that featured a new Prince in a new setting, with cel-shaded visuals and enhanced gameplay. The series has been in hiatus since then but perhaps there may be hope for a new title eventually. Would you like to see a new Prince of Persia game soon?
