Retro Platformer ‘Potatoman Seeks the Troof’ released

by GH Staff

I say potato, you say potato.  Yeah, that probably doesn’t work in a written format, but whatever your preference, don’t call the whole thing off until you try ‘Potatoman Seeks the Troof,’ releasing on Steam today.  The game is developed by Pixeljam, creators of the multiplayer game Dino Run and Glorkian Warrior.

The game is a challenging and humorous 2d platformer with Atari-like retro graphics.  Players take control of a sentient potato where they run and jump their way through various platforming levels including thick forests, desert wastelands, and dystopian cities.  The game features a short-form story and a “bounty of colorful deaths” that can be avoided, providing the player can dodge the insane cars, mad birds, and deadly spikes they will encounter.  Players who have played games such as Super Meat Boy, They Bleed Pixels, or The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures will find the gameplay quite familiar, as the game will require quick reflexes, kill you just as quickly, but will respawn you back in a flash.

The game was previously awarded ‘Indie Game of the Month’ in January 2013 by IGN, featured in the Mac App Store, became an Official Selection at the Indiecade 2013, and received an honorable mention at IGF 2014.

Potatoman will delight, surprise, and challenge you. I had so much fun playing through his little adventure, and I know I’ll replay it many times in the future. And the ending is amazing! Definitely play all the way to the end.

The game costs $3.99 and is available on Steam, Humble Store, Ouya, Fastspring, or the Mac App Store.  You can also purchase the game’s soundtrack, (combined with or without the game) on Bandcamp.
