Just recently, Roku director Lloyd Klarke announced that the Roku 3 device will offer the screen mirroring feature to its users. For those who aren’t really familiar of this feature, this is actually considered as one of the easiest ways to share various types of content to those around you minus the need for installing additional applications. The only thing needed for the user to have is a device that has mirroring capabilities. Once the screen mirroring is turned on using your laptop, smartphone or tablet, you can already pair it with a Roku player so that whatever that you see on your device will be what exactly would show on your TV. Now that you already know the basics of this feature, let’s try to dig deeper on what screen mirroring really is.
Compatible Devices
The screen mirroring feature of the Roku 3 device will allow is users to stream various types of content from their computer or another mobile directly to their televisions without the use of cables that normally would go zigzagging throughout the room. The compatible devices of this feature are Windows Phone 8, Android and personal computers that run using the Windows 9.1 operating system.
Setting Up of Screen Mirroring
According to the announcement made by Roku a few days ago, setting up of screen mirroring is not difficult. The user will need to update and activate his or her device before it will be ready to work with the screen mirroring feature of Roku 3. Now just to set proper expectation, since this is working on beta still, it’s very likely that you will have issues with the way this feature will work on your device.
Problems with the Feature
When the screen mirroring was tried if it’s ready for use or not with the HTC One M8, it did recognize the device at first but didn’t allow for the connection with the setup process at all. Also, when it was connected to a Dell laptop, the streaming setup completely froze that’s why a hard reboot was done.
The developers of Roku 3 are still trying to work on the issues while using the screen mirroring feature and they are also addressing issues that haven’t come up yet to offer the user with the best content streaming experience. There is no announcement on the launch date yet but what Roku promises is that users of Roku 3 can expect things to run more smoothly by the time the product is ready to be released in the market.
