Many gamers have been waiting for over 10 years for a Half Life 3 game. We want to be taken back to City 17, and although it is a bleak and oppressive place, it is also a beautiful place, where for the player, lots of fun was to be had. Gamers want to jump back with a crowbar in hand and fight on with the rebellion, taking on the Combine troops and taking down as many of those three legged beasts known as strider’s as possible. While many of us wish for this, waiting with much anticipation as well as just as much scepticism whenever we get the sent of a possible announcement, modders have been working on a new re-imagining of Half Life 2.
A group of modders known as Vortal Storm, has released a beta through Steam that turns Half Life 2 into a RTS. Everything is there from the core game, the glorious Resistance fighters, the evil Combine soldiers, to the three legged beasts and more. You now control your chosen army, yes you can be the bad guys, in a top down RTS style game. This free multiplayer mod, known as Lambda Wars, allows you to take control of the Resistance or the Combine, with the goal of eliminating your opponents base. The game features numerous units available, research trees, buildings, defences, and abilities, all aspects you except from a full fledge RTS game. The mods focus is multiplayer, but you can play it as a single player experience with full enemy A.I. and single player missions are also available.
You can get the free game right here.
