Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has had some plot details revealed in the coding of its prologue, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
A Reddit user, Nuclearrrrr (amazing choice for a username, right?), found story elements from The Phantom Pain in the coding, which, in the process, hints at the possibility that a demo was initially included with Ground Zeroes.
The Phantom Pain’s hospital scene, which was originally showcased at 2012’s Spike Video Game Awards, may well have been the segment players would have experienced in the demo, as the words “ACT massacre” and “Hospital massacre” are referenced in the coding.
Quiet, the mute female sniper who features in The Phantom Pain, is one of the only characters mentioned multiple times in the images on Reddit, but Revolver Ocelot, who comes to aid Big Boss in the hospital sequence, doesn’t appear at all.
Meanwhile, Big Boss’ ‘Phantom Cigar,’ a mechanic that allows players to speed up the realistic passage of time, and his trusty steed are some of the other notable features that can be found in the coding.
Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component for The Phantom Pain, had details recently revealed on some of the new mechanics and features it will have, while publisher Konami has already announced that both MGO and MGSV would be bundled together at release.
Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q2 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
