Going over today’s smart devices it’s always a good idea to compare it to another smart device. Today we go over the two smart devices to see which out performs who, going over the design, display, sound, camera and battery life. Getting into as much detail as we can from processors to graphics to general user experience.
Samsung Galaxy Core
Released a few months later than the Galaxy Grand, the Samsung Galaxy Core is a powerful addition to the Galaxy smartphone line. Even though the smart device is better than its predecessors at first glance, does it actually feature great specifications and does it deliver a great multimedia experience?
Design
Continuing the tradition blend of casual and business of the Galaxy smartphone line, the Samsung Galaxy Core is a pretty light device with weight of only 124 grams. Being 5.09 x 2.66 x 0.35 inches in size the device is a bit hard to grip, but is nonetheless easy to get used to using with one hand and doesn’t become tiresome to the hand when using because of its weight.
Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Core is a powerful Android smartphone that is able to run almost any lifestyle application as well as some of the high-end games. This is possible, because of the Dual-Core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A5 processor that powers the device. Moreover the CPU is backed up by an Adreno 203 GPU, Snapdragon S4 Play chipset and as much as 1 GB of RAM.
Display & Camera
Even though the display of the Samsung Galaxy Core has a 4.3 inch panel, its small pixel density of only about 217 ppi makes its resolution size only about 480 x 800 pixels. A bit of a setback, the display seems pixelated at times because of its pixel density and may end up ruining the multimedia experience for those who are used to more high-end smartphone devices.
The 5 MP camera of the Samsung Galaxy Core is backed up by several additional features and gives you the ability to capture photos with quality good enough for sharing through the various social networks. However, lacking HDR, the camera is pretty dependant of the lighting conditions and it is only able to record videos at 480p and 30 FPS. However, the secondary camera, despite being VGA, is good enough to provide you with a delightful video conferencing experience.
Battery Life
Having in mind the specifications and the display of the smartphone, the Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery featured on the Samsung Galaxy Core is perfect to provide the device with good enough battery life. The smartphone is able to withstand up to 9 hours of talk time and about 300 hours in standby mode.
Samsung Galaxy Grand
The Samsung Galaxy Grand has been released a few months prior to the Galaxy Core, in January, 2013. However, having in mind its price, could the device actually be a more worthy purchase that other smartphones in the Galaxy family?
Design
The design of the Samsung Galaxy Grand is not surprising. Similar to other devices in the Galaxy smartphone line, the smartphone is clear, stylish and sleek. With its 5.65 x 3.03 x 0.38 inches in size it may be hard to get used to using with one hand, but it is nonetheless designed to be easy to grip. A bit of a setback is its overall weight of 162 grams that makes the smart device tiresome to the hand when extensively used.
Specifications
Even though some may argue that the Samsung Galaxy Grand features better specs than its rival the Galaxy Core, because it is able to run the newer Android v4.2.2 (JellyBean) it actually doesn’t. Lacking a chipset, the device features a Dual-Core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and a Broadcom VideoCore IV GPU that are backed up by as much as 1GB of RAM making it perfect for most of the high-end games available on the mobile market. However, the lack of a powerful chipset is visible when it comes to the overall mobile experience.
Display & Camera
The display of the Samsung Galaxy Grand may be 5.0 inches, but with a low pixel density of only about 187 ppi that makes its resolution size only 480 x 800 pixels, the size of the display panel of the device is actually a setback. Much like the Galaxy Core, most of the multimedia content appears pixelated that overall ruins the visual appeal of the smart device.
One of the strong features of the Samsung Galaxy Grand is its 8 MP camera. Although it doesn’t feature HDR as well, the features that back it up make the camera easy to use as it provides you with photos of decent enough quality. Moreover, the video recording quality provided by the smartphone is perfect for any enthusiast, as it is at 1080p and 30FPS with stereo sound recording. The secondary camera featured on the Galaxy Grand is better than its rival as well, being 2 MP in size providing you with a decent video conferencing experience.
Battery Life
When it comes to battery life, the Li-Ion 2100 mAh battery featured on the Samsung Galaxy Grand is perfect, as it lets the smart device withstand as much as 440 hours ins standby time as well as up to 10 hours of talk time.
Overall
As both devices are available at the same price through various retailers, both devices are worth purchasing today. Although the Galaxy Core features better specifications than its rival, the Galaxy Grand is powerful enough for a decent mobile experience and provides you with a perfect camera. When it comes to a choice between the Samsung Galaxy Grand and the Samsung Galaxy Core it is all about what type of features one prefers.
