Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung has finally revealed the specs for its flagship smartphone  the Galaxy S5. Early reviews have proven positive with many features being improved upon and new features added, including an increased battery size, much to the joy of Samsung Enthusiasts. The overall look and feel of the phone has been improved with Samsung finally moving from the plastic feel of previous designs and instead going with a textured polycarbonate finish. The Galaxy S5 will also be available in 4 different colors, Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold. While it is agreed that the new finish does improve the overall feel of the device many reviews have stated their desire for a metal backing instead. The Galaxy S5 has also had a survivability upgrade, being dust and water resistant. It is also able to survive in 1 meter  deep water for up to 30 minutes.

The new features of the Galaxy S5 are impressive, adding a 16-megapixel camera, quad-core processor, fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor and a new 5.1Inch FHD Super AMOLED 1080p display. The new Camera Sensor has the “worlds fastest auto-focus sensor” at 0.3 seconds and is being compared with Digital SLR Cameras. It will also boast faster HDR performance and Depth Of Field Effects.

Samsung has brokered a partnership with online  payment company PayPal allowing you to make payments using the finger print scanner built into the Galaxy S5. So not only will you get added security on your phone with the finger print scanner being used to lock the device, but it will also make managing of funds more convenient. And the Galaxy S5 doesn’t stop there. Samsung has also developed a touch-activated heart rate monitor to the back of the device, which coupled with the new pedometer make the new Samsung Galaxy S5 your new best friend for exercising.

Getting down to the technical specs of the Galaxy S5, Samsung have included a 2.5 Ghz quad core processor and 2GB of Ram. The Galaxy S5 will be available in 16 GB and 32 GB variations with the ability to upgrade to 128 GB via microSD storage. Finallym the battery has been upgraded from 2600 mAh to 2800 mAh  giving the Galaxy S5 an estimated talk time of up to 21 hours., it will also include an Ultra Power Saving mode which will limit the phone to basic functions and lock the screen to black and white to conserve as much battery power as possible.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is set to for release in over 150 countries, including the US and the UK, on the 11th of April though the price has yet to be revealed. Will this be the greatest phone of the year or released to date? Time will tell, and it will come down to pricing too. There are serious competitors on the market (the Xperia Z2 or HTC One M8), but the Galaxy S5 looks solid enough to pull it off and reach that title!
