by GH Staff

Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo got released in January this year (2014) and Oppo released their phone with name Neo within a month after its release. Both the phones have dual sim capabilities and Oppo Neo gave stiff competition to the product from internationally reputed brand. Even mobile phone analysts got shocked because of because of overwhelming success of Oppo Neo. Let’s have a look at the reasons for success of Oppo Neo and comparing it with Samsung Neo.

Display: Oppo Neo features a 4.5 inch screen where as Grand Neo is fitted with 5.0 inch screen. Both the screens are of resolution 800*480 and in the ppi category Oppo Neo (207 ppi) has more score than Samsung Neo (186 ppi). The IPS LCD display of Oppo Neo is gives far better viewing experience when compared to Samsung Neo’s TFT screen. As per company’s report both the phones can easily display 16M colors.

Weight: Oppo Neo with 130g weighs significantly lesser than Samsung Neo which weighs 163g. Coming to dimensions, with 132×65.8×9.2mm Oppo Neo is smaller than Grand Neo which as dimensions 143.7×77.1×9.6mm.

Hard ware: Grand Neo is powered by A7 processor which is coupled with 1GB of RAM and operates at a clocking speed of 1.2GHz. Oppo Neo, which works on dual core processor with 512MB of RAM has a clock speed of 1.3GHz which is slightly greater than Grand Neo. Though Oppo Neo lags behind in technical specifications, you can’t observe any lag while both the phones are on hand. Internal memory of Oppo Neo is 4GB whereas its counterpart is available in 8/16GB versions. One can even expand their memories through external SD card.

Software: Both the phones use Android Jelly Bean OS with customized interface. The companies need to clarify about the latest android updates i.e. Kit Kat and Lollipop.

Camera: Tough much emphasis won’t be there on camera capabilities at this price; both the cameras are really good in their performance. Both the phones are equipped with 5MP cameras on the rear side but Oppo Neo lags behind as there is no LED Flash for it. On the front side, Samsung fitted VGA camera for its Neo whereas Oppo Neo has better 2MP camera.

Battery: Both the mobile phones are coming with replaceable batteries. The battery capacity of Oppo Neo is 1900mAh whereas Samsung Grand Neo is features a 2100mAh battery. Because of two cores in the processor, the battery usage by Oppo Neo is less and it lasts longer when compared to other though its capacity is less.

Price: in the international market, Grand Neo costs $199(approximately) where as the Oppo Neo is available at a price tag of $165 (converted to USD based on Indian market price).

Though Samsung Neo has better specifications than Oppo Neo in some aspects, they can’t be considered as game chancing factors. Both are released targeting the budget friendly smart phone sector and a significant lesser price of Oppo Neo attracted so many users resulting in increase of its sales. Hope Oppo can give stiff competition to the giant smart phone manufacturer in the near future also.
