Satoru Iwata Unable To Attend E3 Due To Health Concerns

Nintendo president Iwata explains why new 3Ds isn't coming west anytime soon

“Please Understand…”

Due to a physician’s warning, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata will not be attending E3 this year. While Nintendo confirmed Iwata would not be present at E3, they did not specify as to what the health concern was. However, it must be somewhat serious if his doctor is advising that Iwata not fly overseas.

Nintendo Vice President of Corporate Affairs Cindy Gordon had this to say in an email:

“He’s been instructed by his physician not to travel overseas in the immediate future, and so he will not be making the trip to Los Angeles. Please understand that it is business as usual for Mr. Iwata, and he continues his normal duties as president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. while he remains in Japan. As always, he will be actively involved in all of Nintendo’s activities at the show.”

Nintendo plans to hold a digital event, in favor of a traditional press conference. Nintendo plans to make all major announcements in this digital event which will be streamed through Nintendo’s website as well as Twitch TV. You can view the full E3 schedule right here, which covers all 3 days of the expo.

It’s rather unfortunate that Satoru Iwata will not be able to attend E3. However I’m more than confident that Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, and Marketing Manager Bill Trinen are fully capable of taking care of the Nintendo booth themselves. What do you think? Will Iwata’s absence from E3 have any major consequences for Nintendo? Thankfully, since they opted out of a traditional press conference, Iwata will still be able to deliver all news directly to Nintendo fans via the Digital Event. E3 is less than a week away, and there are so many things in store. We will be updating you throughout the week with as much information as possible!
