One can never get bored of killing hordes of orcs, and what better place to do it in than Tolkien’s Middle Earth? Warner Bros. has teamed up with Monolith studios to create an action-game set in the world of Tolkien’s fantasy novels. The game will be entitled Shadow of Mordor and will follow the narrative of Talion, a ranger of Gondor and guardsman of the Black Gate.
Warner Bros. has been kind enough to grace us with some of the first screenshots of the game, and we love what we’re seeing so far. We can already guess that the game will not lack on the fighting side, and the level design already looks really good.
The story is set somewhere between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Talion dies at the hands of the Black Hand and is resurected to life by a powerful wraith. His eyes are set on revenge, and he is aided not only by his sword, but also by wraith-like abilities.
At this point, we don’t know too many details, but we can share what we do know. Sauron, Golum, trolls and orcs will be involved. The rings of power will also make an appearance in some way. Most likely, we will be learning more about their creation. There is no official release date yet, but we know a trailer for the game will be emerging soon. Shadow of Mordor is being developed for all major platforms: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
Other than that, we know little. Shadow of Mordor will be a 3rd person action adventure, and we’re hoping to see a really polished sword-fighting mechanism. The graphics in the screenshots look good, and this early in development, we can only assume that they will be improving.
