It was back in December when we took our first look at the upcoming action game set in Tolkien’s Universe. Back then, our Shadow of Mordor coverage was limited to a few screenshots and some minor details about the plot. Well, this time we have more to show with the latest Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor gameplay video, offering no less than 8 minutes of footage from the Monolith/Warner Bros. game.
The title says it all in terms of location. Shadow of Mordor will place players in – you guessed it! – Mordor, where you’ll be cutting a path through hordes of orcs as Talion. Should you be an orc-lover or simply a pacifist, the path-cutting side can be changed to a stealthier approach, as the video shows. Players will be given some measure of diversity and freedom in how they approach missions, and their choices will influence the outcome of future missions and the general story-line.
Now, based on what we can see, Shadow of Mordor has quite a few resemblances to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Not that it’s an entirely bad thing. The game does build on some successful recipes, and as long as the guys at Monolith improve a well-working and established system, we won’t complain. Granted, the wraith-mode has some similarities with Assassin’s Creed’s Eagle Vision mode, but it also looks to be much more complex. The combat seems familiar, and while it still needs some polish, it’s definitely promising.
Take a look at the video yourself. Does it feel like an Assassin’s Creed game set in Middle Earth?
Shadow of Mordor will be coming for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360, as well as the PC.
