If you stop thinking for a moment then Sims 4 is a great idea. A real time simulator for the human psyche and the interpersonal relationships that are formed over a lifetime, all condensed into a few hours experience. Get thrilled because after five minutes it turns into a real-time DLC shopping mall simulator that teaches us and our children that if you do not buy everything you see on TV, it means that you are not a full member of the society. But this is not our problem, as today we are going to talk only about the future title of the series, The Sims 4.

Let the feelings begin!

As we have said before in some previous articles, the biggest news in Sims 4 will be the feelings (sentiments). Therefore, the days when your SIMS has mixed sentiments of happiness and unhappiness are gone. New sentiments will take place of the dual emotional system which we are very well used to. So, let’s talk about feelings!

Sims can be confident, depressing, sad, angry, anxious, happy or in any other emotional state. Each state will have its own advantages and disadvantages, affecting the current state of mind of the Sims. This will also effect their interactions with other characters and even their own dreams and desires at specific times during the game-play. Sims will no longer seem or act passive and their ambitions will not be random. A depressed sim for instance, will talk less. Instead of chatting or doing things he liked, he would rather go to his room, sit in dark and think about how the whole world is trying to crush him, about how insignificant and unworthy of love little bug he is. However, the depression will unleash a more creative side. The Sim will be able to write and paint and other things specific to this stage. I am not saying that starting from this day all characters from Sims 4 will be like a bunch of emo kids just lying around… On the other hand, anger will make the Sims unable to reason with others. They will try to get away from the anger sim, walking backwards, without making eye contact or sudden movements. An angry sim is however a more determined sim so, it’s up to you whether you would like to make him angry or not.

These feelings can be triggered either by the mistakes your sim makes, either by random events or intentional acts. You can induce certain feelings by manipulating the environment. As a completely black room that has in its center a pedestal with a picture of the most unfortunate moment in that sim’s life. Yes, that will do it! Or, you can just as well use your Sims to sabotage their rivals, sentimentally. A little sad music might put those that annoy you in a depressed mood. Or, maybe not.

The Sims 4 will be released in 2014, but it does not mean that you should get ready to upgrade your hardware. Maxis promises that Sims 4 will run better than The Sims 3, based on a new engine that according to the developers will be more friendly with the weaker or older computer systems. Moreover, Sims 4 will not require a permanent connection to the internet. Until then, we will just have to wait and see.
