Sledgehammer Says Call Of Duty 2014 Is “Ambitious” And “Creative”

Yesterday, during a presentation by Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield at GDC 2014, the studio showered praise for their upcoming Call of Duty title. Schofield called the game the “most ambitious, most creative game we’ve ever made,”, in reference to himself and fellow Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey. Activision CEO Robert Kotick was also previously quoted saying that Call of Duty 2014 is “perhaps the best Call of Duty game ever created.”

Schofield and Condrey briefly showed off an in-game character image from this year’s Call of Duty during their presentation, however this image isn’t available to the public. The latest game hasn’t been officially announced by Activision and we haven’t had a confirmed title either. Call of Duty games tend to be announced around the end of April or the beginning of May, so we’re only about a month away from a potential reveal.

While Sledgehammer Games is developing this year’s title as a next-gen focused one, they will also be making a current gen port, which rumors suggest is being handled by High Moon Studios. Sledgehammer Games’ first Call of Duty title was a co-development of 2011’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward, and they have since been working on this new title for 2014. Activision previously announced that Sledgehammer would be developing this year’s title, putting the development cycle of Call of Duty from a 2 year rotation to a 3 year one, allowing more time for the other studios Infinity Ward and Treyarch to work on their respective games. The release schedule will still be a yearly one but now you’ll have to wait for Treyarch’s new game next year and Infinity Ward’s new game in 2016.
