Ah, the great and powerful “Open World” genre of games, where players are free to go about causing havoc and chaos amongst the in-game public, yes we’ve all had our jolly fun times driving at highly illegal speeds in cars and bikes we could only dream of affording.
When it comes to “Open World Sandbox” Games there are the usual choices like Grand Theft Auto, Saint’s Row, Just Cause and of course one of my favorites, Sleeping Dogs, which was originally going to be the third True Crime game believe it or not, now Sleeping Dogs was one of those rare gems to appear suddenly on the market, boasting unique hand to hand combat rather than the usual Hit and Run game play we’re all so fond of, and by god was it furious! The combat, story, driving, visuals, music and just about everything was executed damn near perfectly and made Sleeping Dogs an absolute blast to play through time and time again.
After completing the main storyline for the game players would have been presented with a cut scene that hinted at a possible sequel, not only that but the main protagonist “Wei Shen” has a constantly mentioned “Deep Gang History” which fans of the game have been dying to know about for quite some time.
Then on October 7th of last year (2013) United Front Games or UFG, announced publicly that they where working on another game based on the “Sleeping Dogs Universe”, but that wasn’t all! in December of the same year UFG Tweeted a photo of what looks to be a Miniature Christmas Tree and a blurred screen with what looks to be the Main Protagonist from Sleeping Dogs. A fan later replied asking if the photo was of “Sleeping Dogs on PS4”, the Studio responded with and confirmed “Triad Wars!” United Front Games has since said that “Triad Wars” will be published by Square Enix like the previous game, and they plan to show it to the public in 2014, they also stated that Triad Wars is “Something we’ve wanted to do for ages”
Now here is my question, the recent E3 Event has just ended…surely if UFG really wanted fans to know about their game they would have showcased at least a reveal at the event? Yet it’s now almost a week after E3 and we’re still chugging along through 2014 without hearing a word from UFG or Square Enix regarding “Triad Wars”, this personally leads me to believe that our long awaited Sleeping Dogs sequel may have been delayed, or at worst put on hold for another bigger project like the rumored new “Deus Ex Continuation”.
Well what ever happens, here’s hopping that Triad Wars is just around the corner ready to jump-kick their fans in the face with awesome material!
