South Park: The Stick of Truth’s publisher Ubisoft decided some time ago to censor a few scenes in the upcoming game for the European, African, and Middle Eastern console versions. The kicker was that Matt Stone and Trey Parker got to pick the text and background image that are to show in replacement of the scenes. We now know what hilarious version Europe is going to see.
If you haven’t been keeping up with the South Park censorship news, a leaked copy of Ubisoft’s review guide showed a little block that explained that the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) version had 7 scenes that wouldn’t be seen by players due to their vulgarity. Here’s an image capture of that portion of the review guide:
The image backgrounds have been a topic of discussion ever since it had been revealed that Australia was getting text over an image of a crying koala. It’s still unknown what Africa and the Middle East is going get instead of the probing scenes, and it should also be noted that the images are just for the console versions. It’s also important to note that the censoring was done by the publisher, Ubisoft, and not a decision made by any ratings board. The PC version, however, is uncensored in Europe. The European image was leaked by a Reddit user, and now we can see it in its full glory. The image shown is of Michelangelo’s David in a perfectly used face-palm stance:
