Square Enix Fans Outraged at the content of Christmas Surprise Box

by GH Staff

A few weeks ago, between December 12 and 20, Square Enix released a special promotional ‘Christmas Surprise Box’ for just £4.99/€6.99 in Europe. Promising content with combined retail value of £50/€75 fans were eager to get their hands on the surprise box, expecting anything from Final Fantasy keys to Sleeping Dogs with all DLC. The box was recently opened and Sqaure Enix revealed that it contained Steam keys for Just Cause 2, Hitman: Blood Money, Tomb Raider and Dungeon Siege III with a 20% discount for your future purchases.

Despite the variety of games and the voucher that the fans got for such a small amount, they started ranting on their official blog complaining about not being able to get what they want. The main reason for complaining is the lack of FF content and the value of the games included. Most people believe you are able to get the games via certain promotions for half the promised combined retail value.

A whole flame war started in the comment section of the blog with quite a few people defending Square Enix.

As outraged fans contacted the support team with the issue, Square Enix promptly responded to their requests saying that they could either give the keys to a friend or send them back before Thursday 2nd January hits for a refund. In order to be eligible for a refund the Steam activation codes must be unused. Moreover, even if you return your Christmas Surprise box content, you will still get to keep the 20% discount voucher.
