We might be getting a little ahead of ourselves, but with the recent information that’s been leaked to us via Twitter the rumors are beginning to become undeniable surrounding the overall production of Just Cause 3. Chances are you’ve heard of the Just Cause series; well known for being an open world experience with numerous ideas behind its construction. Successful to a point, Just Cause 3 has been under wraps for some time now; Avalanche Studios has been rather open with their effort on the game. Studio headsman Christofer Sundberg has hinted to Eurogamer in the past, as well as other sources such as his LinkedIn profile which includes a listing for an “unannounced sandbox action game” for Square Enix, that has been in development since 2011. But that is just acknowledging the game’s presence, the previously unknown information that has added fuel to the fire comes in the form of Square Enix’s current registration of a Just Cause 3 domain that was made earlier this week.
One tweet in particular from superannuation clued us in that Square Enix has begun to move in earnest, despite the fact that the trailer we’ve expected for the sandbox game hasn’t been unveiled. At least, not yet, numerous sources have started to estimate that we’ll see it at E3 2014. However the annual trade fair for the computer and video games industry is still a little too far off to make an appropriate assumption on Square Enix and Avalanche Studio’s repertoire.

In April 2012 Sundberg told Eurogamer that Just Cause was “perfect” for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Leading to the assumption that Just Cause 3 would be accessible across the next-gen consoles. His idea of bringing Just Cause to its next stage of development is an ambitious one, but there is no doubt that it is going to be required of the series in order to maintain its flow of revenue. With the competition beginning to build from other sandbox games, it’ll need to impress in order to counteract its budget.
“There is a very strong emotional attachment to the franchise as it was created by me and my design team here so we would obviously like to see a very bright future for Just Cause,” the studio head divulged to Eurogamer in 2012. Placing emphasis on Just Cause with his own subtle gesture. “In this day and age when everyone is struggling to make money, my opinion is that the JC IP is perfect for everything that next-gen has to offer.” He concluded in his interview, displaying an unshakable amount of confidence in the next installment of the series.
Avalanche Studios are also working on a Mad Max game, which ironically managed to launch another trailer when multiple fans were expecting a Just Cause 3 debut trailer. The game was announced earlier today as being “no longer expected in 2014.” So, chances are that we’ll be seeing both of them come 2015. We will be keeping players up to date with new rumors and leaked information, any future movements are made in either of Avalanche’s games will be documented. Keep checking in for the newest updates, feel free to tell us your take on the studio’s movements and the boundless rumors!
