Swedish Starcraft 2 player Madeline “Maddelisk” Leander, pictured above, was subject to a rape tweet from one of Europe’s most seasoned Starcraft II players, Mykhailo “Kas” Gaida. It was during a qualifying round of the Fragbite Masters tournament that unbeknownst to Leander, Gaida sent out the following Tweet:

Though the Tweet occurred during their match, Leander would only find out after the match was over, as she related in a post she wrote on E-Sport Teams:

“I was invited to play in the tournament Fragbite Masters. My first reaction was ”but I’m not good enough”. It was however not the first time an underdog was invited to a tournament. It would be stupid to say no, I thought. I saw it as chance and said yes. A few minutes into the first map the game was paused. I had no idea why but it was because of the tweet. The game went on and I lost 0-2. When the match was over I saw this. A tweet with the text ”Going to rape some girl soon #fragbitemasters” written by my opponent.

I don’t even know what to say. I was very surprised to say the least. This coming from a pro player is scary. The organizers did what they could. They asked Kas to apologize and talked about it after.”

In response to this event, the official Fragbite Masters site posted the following statement from Pontus Eskilsson, the Head of Fragbite Masters in which he states that “toxic acts have consequences:”

“First of all, I have to say that this is terrible. We will never stand for this kind of behaviour, and therefore a disqualification is highly appropriate. We need to show the players that these kinds of toxic acts have consequences. We have learned that the opponent in question has been dealt criticism for our penalty towards Kas, but we can assure you, this decision was made completely by the Fragbite Masters staff.”

After being kicked out of the tournament, Gaida apologized to the public for his “stupid tweets,” though notably falls short of actually apologizing to Leander:
