Steam Music Beta rolls out, World Domination Alert?

by GH Staff

Half Life 3 announcement may not be coming in the near future, but Valve does look forward to the release of their new consoles – The Steam Machines. Going for a more head on approach, the company has decided not only to release their own operating system, but also the appropriate networks and apps for music, movies and sharing.

Although, we have yet to hear something in regard to Steam Movies, the first testers of the Music app designed with SteamOS in mind have already received their beta invites. Although Steam Music may seem as the Valve’s attempt to bring down iTunes at first glance, it may actually prove to be a valuable addition to SteamOS for the gamers. A new Steam community post hints at ‘a basic way for [the gamers] to access and play music while in-game.’

Unfortunately, Gaben Newell may not have ‘world domination’ in mind, as some internet ‘trolls’ suggest, but rather hope for a better gaming world. The official Valve announcement for Steam Music reads that they aim to ‘broaden Steam as an entertainment platform,’ one made by gamers for the gaming community that will allow players to enjoy ‘other forms of media,’ while they are having fun (or frustrating over) their favorite game.

Even though, Steam Music Beta invites started rolling out earlier today, enthusiast are still able to opt in, simply by joining the official Steam Music Group. What do you think, would you like to have a better way to enjoy your muisc library while playing?
