The original Super Mario Bros game has been played countless times in the near 30 years since it was first released. And yet, there are still new secrets about the game being discovered. This video, which was uploaded to Youtube around a week ago, shows off a new glitch which can be performed to get infinite lives in the notoriously difficult platformer.
The glitch requires a couple of things. First off, you have to play in two player mode. Get your first player, Mario, to world 1-2 and then suicide him into the first enemy. Next, get your second player, Luigi, to world 5-2. Since there is a warp at the end of world 1-2 to take you to world 5, this shouldn’t take long. In world 5-2 you can hit a block to reveal a vine. While the vine is growing, jump Luigi into a hammer from the nearby Hammer Bro. This will kill Luigi, and bring you back to world 1-2 as Mario, where the vine will keep growing. By climbing onto this vine you can bounce off of a shell an infinite amount, giving you as many lives as you can dream of.
If only we knew about this glitch 29 years ago.
