With the recent release of Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS (and the rise of a countless number of blistered thumbs and broken friendships) last week, players of Nintendo’s popular brawler have probably spent a considerable amount of time with the game.
Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS has gained over 2.8 million players of the game since its initial release, and will most likely have a steady sell-through number, not to mention the newly announced release date of Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Wii U on November 21st.
Even with the immense success of this year’s latest entry into the Super Smash Bros. franchise, its 3DS iteration has had a few surprises up its proverbial sleeve including, but not limited to curious evidence pointing to possible incoming stage DLC, and the possible removal of Fire Emblem: Awakening character, Tharja‘s trophy due to her outfit being too sexy/revealing.
However, that’s not all. Tech-savvy players have dug deep into Super Smash Bros. 3DS’ system files, discovering a number of interesting things, including the possibility of extra cups ala Mario Kart 8.
What gamers are most likely to be interested in is that audio clips of the game’s announcer have been discovered, in which he announces various statements –
With one in particular saying, “8-player Smash!”

Super Smash Bros. – 8-Player Smash Mode?
As seen above, the announcer says at 0:23 , in his commanding voice, “8-Player Smash!” As for what that statement actually entails is unknown at this time. It’s possible that Nintendo was working on implementing an 8-player Smash mode before the idea was ultimately scrapped, presumably due to the possibility of technical or balancing issues.
It’s also unknown whether or not the discovered announcer’s audio clips will be reused in the upcoming Wii U version of Super Smash Bros.
What are your thoughts on an 8-player mode in Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U? Would it be too chaotic? Could the Nintendo 3DS even handle that amount of stuff going on on-screen? If it was implemented into any version of the game, would you give it a spin? Why or why not?
