In honor of Tetris’ 30th anniversary, Ubisoft announced via their blog that they will be bringing Tetris Ultimate to the next generation of video game consoles. The game will be a downloadable title that features multiple versions of Tetris over the years, and is being developed by Blue Planet Software. Tetris Ultimate is set to be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Rumors of this game began circulating back in January when The Tetris Company and Ubisoft announced that they were working on a game in honor of the 30th anniversary of Tetris.
Tetris Ultimate features six different modes to play.
- Battle – a head to head competitive mode
- Endless – The game will continue as long as the player can survive up to 30 levels
- Marathon – Includes up to 15 levels
- Power-Up Battle – Will grant players special abilities
- Ultra – a special 3 minute timed challenge
- Sprint – Clearing 40 lines as fast as possible
Tetris Ultimate will be at E3 this year. Alexey Pajitnov, the original Tetris creator will be showcasing the game alongside Blue Planet Software CEO Maya Rogers, and Tetris Company managing director Henk Rogers.
Fans of Tetris will certainly have something to look forward to with this upcoming title. Tetris has been a highly popular game ever since it was packaged with the original Game Boy back in the late 1980’s. From there, Tetris went on to become one of the biggest franchises in the video game industry, and has had more ports than any other video game. Have you played any variations of Tetris lately?
