We knew that Minecraft PS4, Minecraft Xbox One and Minecraft PS Vita would be releasing this year, but we had no indication as to when this would happen. We are still unsure about the Xbox One version, but we’ve finally got some information as to when the Minecraft PS4 and PS Vita versions will be landing. Owen Hill, a member of Mojang recently gave some updates about progress on various company projects via a Playstation Blog post. “In other PlayStation-related news, 4J are working on bringing Minecraft toPlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Sorry for the delay but making Minecraft happen is serious business.” he said.
This might seem relatively vague, so a fan asked the hard question: “I know you guys are working super hard on the PS4/Vita Versions, but do you have an estimation of when we can expect it? Q2, Q3, Q4?”. Owen Hill was kind enough to answer and stated that: “Sorry for the late response! We’re aiming for Q2/Q3”. In other words, the game will be coming out by October, the latest. A reasonable bet would be a late-August, early-September release date for the Minecraft PS4 and PS Vita editions, and perhaps an even faster release for the Xbox One version, which is said to be slightly ahead in development.
As for the Minecraft PS Vita edition, it seems it will be more akin to the PS3 version, and won’t resemble the Pocket Edition too much. In fact, it might be possible to import saves from the Minecraft PS3 and PS4 versions, but this has not been confirmed so far. We know that the retail edition of the PS3 version will be coming on the 16th of May, and that should serve as a good indication as to what we can expect from the PS Vita version. Information about cross-platform support will be coming soon. “We’ll have more news on cross-buy/upgrade options soon! I understand that the wait is frustrating, but we don’t want to make false promises.” explained Owen Hill.
In the meantime, Notch revealed yesterday that Minecraft has surpassed 15 million sales on the PC, making it an extremely successful title for the no longer small company. Are you planning on picking up the upcoming PS4/Vita versions of Minecraft once they become available?
