[promo title=”Child of Light”][/promo]
Ubisoft’s Child of Light is a different RPG. It’s beautiful artwork and design take precedence over fancy graphics, but that’s not a bad thing when we’re talking about role-playing. The music, setting and atmosphere are a promise of an unforgettable tale. It has an engaging multiplayer mode, and feedback from those lucky enough to test it for a short while has been exceedingly positive. Add that to the low retail price of $14.99 and the flexibility of the game platform-wise (it’s coming out on all major platforms – Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC and Wii U) and you have a really promising game. Oh, and there isn’t much to wait either, it’s due on the 30th of April.
[promo title=”Dark Souls 2″][/promo]
Yes, the highly anticipated sequel to Dark Souls is coming this year. It’s actually right around the corner, launching on the 11th of March, at the same time as Titanfall. Dark Souls 2 will introduce improved visuals, a revised combat mechanic, but will also include lots of dying…again. Yes, the game has received a T rating from the ESRB this time around (as opposed to the first Dark Souls which was rated M), probably due to a lack of nudity, but there are no indications that the game will be any less gruesome or punishing. Expect various ways to painfully die, and quite the amount of combat. Dark Souls was a gem, and we see no reason why Dark Souls 2 won’t be one too. Hence, we’re really looking forward to it.

[promo title=”Bound by Flames”][/promo]
Sure, Bound by flame’s developer Spiders doesn’t have the financial resources to compete with CD Projekt Red and create a massive open-world like The Witcher 3 does. But that’s okay, because they are making up for it by creating a story-driven RPG that will target a very broad audience. Bound by Flame received critical attention after some intriguing trailers, showing off intense combat, massive foes to take down and an eye-pleasing engine. The game will feature crafting, companions and side quests, and while it doesn’t boast an exceptionally long gameplay time (estimated game length is around 20-25 hours), it will have quite the replayability factor due to the complex choice-making system. Definitely an underdog we’re anxious to try out.
[promo title=”Divinity: Original Sin”][/promo]
Yes, it’s a kickstarter-funded game, and yes, Divine Divinity wasn’t exactly flawless, but this time around, we’re bound to get a much better experience. For those that want an engaging action-rpg game, Divinity: Original Sin is really a title to follow. It’s only developed for the PC and Mac (with Linux support), but it will bring plenty of content. In addition, players will have access to the game’s editor, allowing them to create custom maps and dungeons that can be shared online. It’s already in Early Access on Steam, and the full game will be released on the 28th of February.
[promo title=”South Park: The Stick of Truth”][/promo]
The fan-base of South Park is massive and undeniable. South Park: The Stick of Truth has been pushed back several times, but it’s currently in gold (which means it’s pretty much ready), and will be shipping on the 3rd of March. This is one RPG that won’t lack humor, that’s for sure. Testimony of that is the fact that the South Park show itself made fun of the game, highlighting that it’s always delayed. It’s also made by Obsidian, so there’s definitely enough pedigree behind the project to get us interested. It’s definitely a different spin on RPGs, and we’re eager to see how that turns out.
So this is what we’re eager to try this year. Have we missed any of your favorite titles? Feel free to start a discussion on our new forums and let us know.
