The Order: 1886 Trailer Reveals Weapons from the Mind of Nikola Tesla

by GH Staff

Just yesterday, Gamescom gave the gaming community plenty of peeks at up and coming titles for several platforms. Among them was a brand new trailer for Playstation exclusive, The Order: 1886. Coming from the same genre as games such as Dishonored and Thief, The Order seems to be stuffing in as much steam-punk goodies as humanly possible. Between being set in Victorian era London, werewolf-like creatures (which remind me of the Wolfman remake), and now weapons and equipment inspired by the works of the Nikola Tesla, the game looks to be total candy for lovers of the genre.

Obviously, The Order: 1886 strays from the standards set by Thief and Dishonored by not being a stealth-focused game. While I am a big fan of the stealth genre, especially ones in the first-person, I think it’s good to have a steampunk game that is going to give action-style gameplay a try. It will be nice to give people a different perspective on games set in the Victorian era and will probably even reach out to a broader audience.

On top of that, seeing all the new Tesla-inspired equipment really reminded me of the gadgets used in Warehouse 13, an old favorite of mine from the SyFy channel. While the majority of what the trailer teases looks to be shooting more for the realistic rather than fantastical (at least to Warehouse 13’s level), it’s hard to deny the resemblance:

All in all, even for a light steam-punk nerd like me, the tech looks absolutely amazing and I can’t help but wonder what The Order: 1886 is going to tease with next. One way or another, they’ve certainly got me checking my release calendar.

What kind of Victorian Era goodies do you hope will be present in The Order: 1886?
