The PS4 VR supporting Project Cars gets a breathtaking new trailer

Fans of racing games, rejoice! You really have something to look forward to with Project Cars, the highly ambitious game developed by Slightly Mad Studios. The studio seems to be extremely proud of its new baby, and isn’t too shy about showering it with compliments. “Featuring world-class graphics and handling, a ground-breaking dynamic time of day & weather system, and deep tuning & pit stop functionality, Project Cars leaves the competition behind in the dust” states Slightly Mad Studios. A bold claim perhaps, but based on the game’s latest trailer, it’s not entirely far-fetched. Take a look below at Project Cars’ latest trailer, recorded entirely using in-game footage.

It’s unclear what platform the game has been recorded on, but it’s unlikely that it’s the Wii U. That’s right, you read it right. Project Cars is a next-gen title, but it will also be released for the Wii U, along with the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It won’t, however, run on the Xbox 360 or PS3 unfortunately, but based on how it looks, that’s not entirely surprising. Project Cars has been in development for a long time, and was initially set for a late 2013 release. It’s now aiming for a November 2014 release, with no exact date confirmed. Project Cars is also among the first games to support Sony’s new VR technology, the Project Morpheus. “We’re proud to announce today that Project Cars will be supporting Project Morpheus, giving players a totally fresh and exhilarating new perspective on what it feels like to sit in the cockpit of a high-performance machine screaming around a beautiful location.” said studio representatives.

We’re a bit worried about the nauseating experience a high-paced racing game might provide through a Virtual Reality platform. People tinkering with VR and racing games in the past have expressed concerns about prolonged use, but we’ll have to wait and see how Slightly Mad Studios deals with this. VR or not, the game looks absolutely stunning, and shows a huge variety of iconic cars, from 80’s classics to modern day supercars. According to the developers, Project Cars is the “most authentic, beautiful, and technically advanced racing game on the planet.” Another bold statement. Can they live up to their claims? What’s your take?
