The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2’s outrageous price makes it a bad choice

Newly released phones usually come with a steeper price-tag due to their novelty, but even considering this aspect, the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 is a poor choice if you’re looking for a new hand-held. Its modest hardware and average design do not, under any circumstance, make up for the steep price-tag. It can be picked up for around $250-270, which might not seem like that much at a first glance, but for what it offers, it’s extremely expensive. The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 does nothing great in any specific area, and if you’re the owner of the previous Samsung Galaxy S Duos, you shouldn’t even bother considering to upgrade. What does the new model offer for the asking price? Let’s take a quick look!

The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 runs on a dual-core CPU clocket at 1.2 GHz, and comes with 768 MB of Ram. This is nowhere near being impressive, and often the phone seems unresponsive and slow. Combined that with 4GB of internal space, out of which only 1.8GB are available to the user, and you’re limited in terms of what you can actually use the phone for. Don’t expect to run too many applications at once on the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 – not that you have room to install too many to begin with. The display, while not exactly small (4 inches), is anything but impressive. It runs at a resolution of 480×800 pixels (around ~233 PPI), which is actually pathetic in its price-range. The 5MP camera is decent but not out of the ordinary. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 comes with the Jelly Bean Android 4.2 pre-installed, which isn’t a bad OS, but feels out-dated in comparison with the new KitKat.

As far as design is concerned, there’s nothing fancy here. The phone doesn’t look bad, but it doesn’t stand out either. It’s pretty much the same design Samsung used for a long time, with a plastic casing that comes in either black or white. The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 has nothing worth recommending going for it, really. In addition, for the same price-range you could pick up a much better smartphone, such as the the Nexus 4, which starts at around $300. If you want the same specs as the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2, you can pick up the Nokia Lumia 520 about $140-150, which is half the price. Overall, we recommend that you stay as far away from the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 as you can.
