The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet will need a great price to compete!

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Specifications Camera Price

I’ve previously praised the recently announced Sony Xperia Z2 phone, which not only looks great, but has top of the line hardware hidden beneath the hood. It’s going to be an expensive phone, but the price might just be worth it. The same can’t be said about the Xperia Z2 Tablet, which seems to fall behind the competition a bit. Yes, it does indeed look fantastic in terms of design. You’d expect to be a hefty tablet, considering it sports a 6000 mAh battery, but it’s surprisingly light and slick. It’s only 6.4mm thick (thinner than the Xperia Z2 phone actually), and it weighs a measly 425 grams. So it’s light and slim, great! But it also looks remarkably good. If anything, Sony went spot-on with the Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z2 phone, at least when it comes to design. Software-wise, the Xperia Z2 Tablet will most likely run on the same Android KitKat 4.4.2 as the phone, but Sony hasn’t commented on the issue.

For everything else, the Xperia Z2 Tablet falls a bit short. It’s not bad, obviously, but compared to the newest Samsung tablets, it seems under-powered. It uses a capable processor, mainly the 801 Snapdragon quad-core, clocked at 2.26 GHz. No complaints in this department. RAM is average, with the Xperia Z2 Tablet having 3GBs of it. The camera is a nice one, more specifically a 8.1 MP one, which is not bad at all for a tablet. Where it really lacks though is the screen. It’s a 10.1 inch screen that runs at 1080p. This is surprising, considering that the smaller display of the Xperia Z2 phone is capable of much higher resolutions on a smaller screen. Not that 1080p is unusable, but when you release a product that’s most likely to appeal to high-end consumers, more is expected of you.

Overall, the price of the Xperia Z2 Tablet should be extremely competitive, which we honestly doubt will be the case. Sony doesn’t really do cheap. Yes, the Xperia Z2 Tablet has the same features as the phone, in the sense that it too has the waterproof and dust-proof technology. It’s also solidly built and works fine. But it could have worked better and definitely could have done with a better screen. Unless the price will be considerably lower than Samsung’s counterparts (which we doubt), we can’t really recommend the Xperia Z2 Tablet.
