If you’re like me, you absolutely love Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead.” I love the comic books, I love the television series, and TellTale Games made me fall in love with their pseudo point-and-click horror/adventure game. Season 1 took everybody by complete surprise and delighted fans, newcomers, and critics alike, amassing over 90 Game Of the Year awards.
I loved how the focus of the game, much like the show and comic book, focused on the characters more so than the zombie apocalypse. Depending on how you interact with individual characters throughout your journey, the story changes. Oh, and by changes, I mean because of you, characters’ lives will be lost, some will hate you, and decisions you deemed miniscule or unimportant may come to destroy you later on. In fact, all of the major decisions you make throughout the 5 released episodes are thrown back at you in the final confrontation, and TellTale says these will also carry over to Season 2 with our precious Clementine.
Season 1 taught me to dull down my morals to keep everyone in my group alive, and to protect Clementine at all costs. The theme of moral ambiguity carries over the television show and comic books as well, and with every twist and turn, you’re faced with another ugly truth about humanity, and you must decide for yourself who really are ‘The Walking Dead’.
Season 2, Episode 1 was uncompromisingly brutal and sometimes difficult to play due to the violence inflicted on our protagonist, our precious Clementine from Season 1. She’s slightly older here, but still a young girl, but the game loves to remind its players that the zombie apocalypse does not and will not pull any punches whatsoever. The lessons learned from Lee are very apparent here, and she has become stern, less inclined to place her faith and trust in strangers, and more deadly. I seriously can not wait to see how the world continues to shape Clementine, and how it affects her innocence, ideology, and faith in people.
TellTale Games’ “The Walking Dead”, Season 2, Episode 2: ‘A House Divided’ arrives on the PlayStation Network March 4th.
Hop on that season pass, guys!
