Two major updates are coming for the Xbox One, based on an Xbox Wire announcement from earlier today. The introduction of the post tries to emphasize how the Microsoft team is constantly reading and revising player feedback, and aims to make the Xbox One a better and better product over time. Whether or not this is true is debatable, but the usefulness of the future updates is not.
The first update will land on the 11th of February, and will bring several very interesting features. First, the Xbox One will support USB keyboards, which might be an appealing trait for many users. There will be a battery power indicator once more, allowing Xbox One users to track the remaining battery life of your wireless controller. And, most importantly, the update will include the ability to oversee and manage storage space, by managing download queues, overseeing the install lineup, and by separating the My Games and My Apps sections into different lists, providing better oversight. Boot order and progress management tools will also be included, and apparently, there will be other features in the patch as well. This is all we’re getting from Microsoft on the issue for now though.
Moving on the the second update, this one will be coming on the 4th of March, just one week before the launch of Titanfall in the US on the 11th (Europeans will be getting Titanfall 3 days later, on the 14th). The 4th of March Xbox update will supposedly bring multiple improvements, mostly focusing on the multiplayer experience, matchmaking and party system. We expect this patch to be major, as Titanfall is Microsoft’s front-running Xbox One game in the first-half of 2014. If that wasn’t evident enough, the fact that a special Titanfall edition of the Xbox One console and controller are being prepared to launch with the game should be proof enough. Most Microsoft marketing campaigns for the Xbox One are centered on Titanfall, and for good reason. The game seems to be extremely popular within the online gaming community.
What features are you the most excited about, and what would you like to see in terms of future updates for Microsoft’s Xbox One?
