Titanfall 2 might come to Steam, PS4, Respawn says

It appears that Respawn Entertainment has quite a lot on its plate as of late. In addition to the recent revelation that the game studio has formed a second team tasked with development on a non-Titanfall-related project (reportedly led by God of War developer Stig Asmussen, no less), Respawn is already talking about Titanfall 2 – specifically what systems the studio desires the game to be available on.

As many gamers are well aware of, the PC version of Titanfall is only available through Origin, which is EA’s digital game distribution service, but not on Steam, Valve’s immensely popular (over 100 million+ unique users) Steam platform. This is something that Vince Zampella, one of Respawn Entertainment’s co-founders, wishes to rectify with Titanfall 2.

Read more on what Zampella had to say about Titanfall 2 after the break.

Titanfall 2 May Come to Steam, PlayStation Systems

Titanfall 2 may come to Steam, PlayStation Systems says Respawn

While Zampella laments the fact that the first Titanfall is unlikely to ever become available on Steam, Titanfall 2 might.

In a recent feature with Game Informer, Zampella stated the following regarding the matter:

“At some point you look at it and you say is it even worth now this much later the effort to put it on Steam, when it would be a lot of work and kind of bifurcate the community? We would have loved for it to be on Steam from day one, but at some point it just doesn’t make sense anymore and you start looking to the future and I think we should not make that same decision again.”

Furthermore, Zampella revealed that the original Titanfall was only available on Origin due to EA being the game’s publisher. In regards to the Xbox console exclusivity of the game, he stated that it was put into place by EA without Respawn’s knowledge – describing the move as a “tactical opportunity.”

However, some good news for console gamers – it seems that EA’s grip on the Titanfall IP’s Xbox exclusivity will not be relevant when it comes to Titanfall 2, as Zampella also said that a sequel to the original may also arrive on PlayStation systems.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Titanfall 2 will come out on Steam and/or PS4? Why or why not? What would you like to see from a Titanfall sequel?
