Titanfall has been out now for just over a week, and developer Respawn Entertainment have just rolled out the first patch. Respawn describe the upcoming changes on their website, which range from balancing tweaks for guns and perks, to general bug fixes, many of which involve problems encountered when riding Titans. Some of the changes include:
- Slightly decreased the damage of the Smart Pistol when not locked onto a Pilot.
- Slightly decreased the hip-fire accuracy of the Smart Pistol.
- Explosives detonated by Dead Man’s Trigger are now slightly delayed.
- Explosives detonated by Dead Man’s Trigger now play a warning sound before exploding.
- Tweaks to point values assigned to player’s actions in various game modes.
- Several fixes for glitches involving Titans.
- General fixes for server errors.
Two of the more notable balancing changes involve nerfing the Smart Pistol and the Dead Man’s Trigger ability, the latter of which enables pilots’ explosives to be detonated after death. Players have been responding to these changes on the Titanfall forums and hopefully Respawn will receive some useful feedback to keep improving the game after this first set of changes.

With the recent news that Titanfall will also receive additional game modes in the future, the future of the new series looks optimistic. The fact that the series has already secured a cross-platform sequel shows even more evidence of its success. It’s key to remember that the Titfanfall launch was extremely important for Microsoft, in terms of attracting players both new and old. Titanfall provided a much-needed boost in sales to the Xbox One, with some sources reporting a jump of up to 96%. The next obvious hurdle that needs to be crossed is the Xbox 360 release, but overall it seems that Respawn’s new IP is destined for success.
