Titanfall DLC Announced, Coming In May

Titanfall DLC coming in May

Moments ago, EA and Respawn Entertainment held a Titanfall panel at PAX East about the development process behind the game. The retrospective look back at Titanfall wasn’t all reminiscing and memory-lane moments, as more details regarding the new shooter’s future were given.

Respawn announced that Titanfall will receive its first DLC expansion this May. “Expedition” follows after the events of the current story campaign, and will bring three new maps into the chaos.”Swampland” will take place within an ancient, ruined site, home to “archaic alien technology”. This first map will also feature some gameplay variations, as pilots will have the ability to wall-run on trees, along with the rest of the environment. While details regarding the other two maps are sparse, “Runoff” will feature some kind of water-based environment. The final map for the Titanfall DLC pack is “War Games”, and will take place within the digital Training Module (i.e. the Tutorial environment).

During the panel, Respawn also announced that outside of the Titanfall DLC, free updates would be coming to the multiplayer FPS. Some of the planned features to be distributed by future updates include HUD-removal for video recording and streaming, new burn cards and multiplayer modes, and the ability to have players find each other and create teams by using social media tags. Respawn is also planning to include Titan customization, a competitive ranking system, and daily challenges.

Respawn briefly mentioned adding “rifts or variants” into Titanfall in the future. What this would essentially do is create temporary changes to gameplay features in specific modes. Changes would only last for roughly a week, and if the Titanfall community approves of these variants, the changes will become permanent. Think of it as an “active beta” feature.

An official release date was not given, but the Expedition Titanfall DLC will be arriving in May. A price has not been announced, but a Season Pass is currently available for $24.99.

It’s worth pointing out that this announcement was made during a Respawn Entertainment panel, which means that Expedition is confirmed for the Xbox One and PC versions. As the Xbox 360 version was developed by Bluepoint Games, we’ll have to wait for more details as to whether or not Titanfall 360 will get to share the fun.
