Upscaling is a term commonly associated with the Xbox One it seems. In the case of Titanfall, there will be no exception either. It seems that Titanfall will not run at 1080 at launch, according to community manager Abbie Heppe’s post on the Titanfall blog. In its current state, the Titanfall client runs at 792p on the Xbox One, and it might be boosted up to 900p until launch. The word “might” is to be underlined, as there’s no actual guarantee that this will actually happen.
It’s commonly known that many Xbox One games use lower resolutions and are upscaled to 1080p, and this seems to be the case with Titanfall too. Xbox One fans were hoping for a 1080p title that runs smoothly at 60 FPS, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. The fact that an official announcement about FPS hasn’t been made is also cause for some worry. The only indication of how well the game will run is last-year’s statement made by Drew McCoy, who mentioned that Titanfall’s frame rate will be “king”. King does not equal 60 FPS in any language though, so until we get to properly test it at launch, we can’t tell for sure.
There is a possibility that the game will receive something close to 900p, but 1080p is pretty much out of the question right now. This means that the visual experience of Titanfall will be vastly superior on the PC compared to the Xbox One, which is a shame. We’re also curious to see how the Xbox 360 version will look like (keep in mind that this version is developed by Bluepoint Games and will come out two weeks later) in comparison to the Xbox One.
In case you’ve missed the news, Titanfall’s beta is now open for signing up, and will begin this Friday. The game will be launching on the 11th of March in the US, and 3 days later in Europe. What resolution will ultimately be reached on the Xbox One remains to be seen, but it’s rather disappointing that the game won’t run at 1080p.
