Upcoming Nintendo console – too soon after Wii U?

The underdog Nintendo has officially confirmed that a new Nintendo console is on its way. Good news or bad? Wii U has turned out to be the most unsuccessful game consoles in the history of Nintendo so far, and they are already talking about the next Nintendo console?

In an interview with CEO and president of Nintendo Satoru Iwata said “Once we launch a new platform, we naturally start to prepare for the next one. As it takes several years to develop a single platform, if you ask us whether we are preparing for our next system, then the correct response will be that we are always developing new hardware,” said Iwata during an investor Q & A session.

Nintendo has to cherish the fans they have collected in the past years because the gaming industry is a very competitive place with fans just gunning for the next best thing. They will only achieve this by offering great a great service and experience to existing customers. The Wii U was ripe with bugs that made the device slow and even freeze at some points. Nintendo have to build new trust, and by making it look like you are ditching a device that 5 million+ people bought does not help the situation. Satoru Iwata had this to say “I of course believe that launching new hardware will not produce good results unless we first make sure that those who have already purchased our platforms are satisfied.”

As far as specifications and hints for the new Nintendo console goes Satoru Iwata politely refused to give any information. This is a shame as what the company really needs, if they plan on releasing a new Nintendo console in the near future, is create some hype and start a debate among the fans.

“On the other hand, the most difficult question for us to answer in public in concrete terms is when we are going to launch our new hardware and what kind of hardware we are going to launch, and I am afraid that I cannot talk about this in more detail. However, I can certainly assure you that we are not at a dead end of any kind in which we are out of ideas for developing new hardware,” assured Satoru Iwata

How long can Nintendo keep the Wii U up for sale,  will they manage to turn the sales to make a profit? Or are they trying to minimize damage while rolling out the new Nintendo console. Whatever they decide to do it’s a rough ride for Nintendo and I’m sure all gamers wish them the best of luck.
