The upcoming entry into Nintendo’s super Smash Bros. series continues to set itself apart as it includes more playable female character options. The new Super Smash Bros., which will make its way onto the Wii U and the 3DS, is adding the option to play as a female Animal Crossing villager.
In the past, Super Smash Bros. has often regarded playable female characters as an after-thought. In this upcoming entry into the series, however, the number of options for playing a female has increased compared to past installments. The current playable female roster includes Peach, Samus, Zelda, Sheik, Rosalina and the Wii Fit trainer (available in both sexes).
This is a big effort for Nintendo, who isn’t known for diversity regarding their most iconic characters. The addition of more than a few female options is definitely a step in the right direction. Super Smash Bros. is currently planned for release sometime this year.
