Valve Might Be Done With Their Steam Box

by GH Staff

FINALLY!

Actually no, I wouldn’t want to mislead those of you still following the Steam trial or interested in purchasing in the machine. This update on the Steam Box comes in the form of a finalized controller. Along with having many other development issues prolonging its release, the controller has been the main headache over at Valve.

As comforting as it is to see a company work so hard on making sure the controller the players will be using is the pinnacle of gamepad gaming, it is making many of those eagerly awaiting its release (like me) pretty restless. An image for the Steam Box controller’s final design can be seen below..

It may not be a real life picture of the controller, but the fact that Valve has labeled this the ‘final design’ for the controller makes us believe that the Steam Box is that much closer to finally being released.

I’m sure many of you reading this will be thinking, “well haven’t they said this before?” Well…yeah, they have. Valve has said time and time again that they have made a better controller compared to their earlier model and have shown confidence that whatever model they are showing is the one they will be deciding on. However, its release date being pushed further and further away the closer we get to it tells a different story.

The controller has seen many slight differences with the many iterations in terms of design, but under the hood the differences are much more drastic. With every redesign of the controller Valve has said that they are confident in the functionality of the controller, and with every new video of hands-on testing of the controller it has proven to be a very functional controller.

Its design has seen a lot of continuous changes (images posted By Valve themselves can be seen at the end). The many changes in the device are all to make sure that the Steam Box’s controller is the most comfortable controller on the market, and with the aforementioned ‘final design’ Valve might have just settled on a controller that satisfied everyone’s expectations.

Valve has promised to bring an actual controller with them at this year’s Game Developers Conference based on the new design and I can only assume that they will decided on whether or not to go forward with the design based on users reactions. Hopefully everything goes well, because I am pretty excited to get my hands on the Steam Box.
